Diamond earring stuck inside pet chicken

Sept. 2, 2013 at 3:35 PM   |   Comments

READING, England, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A British woman said she will wait about eight years until her pet chicken dies to retrieve a diamond earring swallowed by the bird.

Claire Lennon, 38, of Berkshire County, England, said Sarah the chicken snatched the earring, a gift from her partner, Adam de Marco, while perching on her shoulder and veterinarians determined the ring was trapped in the chicken's stomach and could only be removed with a potentially fatal surgery, The Telegraph reported Monday.

"The vet said he could operate to recover the earring, but that might kill Sarah, which would devastate our 6-year-old daughter Mia, who dotes on the chicken.

"So we'll have to wait till Sarah gets old and dies, but they live to a ripe old age -- we are probably looking at another eight years before I get my earring back."
