Though he's no Grumpy Cat, Colonel Meow is what you might call "Internet famous." But now that he's been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records, this epically furry feline is achieving a tiny measure of real fame, too.

The Colonel, a two-year-old Himalayan-Persian kitty who hails from Los Angeles, was crowned cat with the longest fur by Guinness, the arbiter of such titles as "Greatest distance traveled with a pool cue balanced on chin" (1,668 m) and "Fastest time to enter a suitcase" (5.43 seconds).

Measured by three independent veterinarians, the Colonel's fur -- taken on average from 10 hairs -- stretched an impressive 22.87 cm.

"We already knew that he was the best cat in the world, but to be recognized in the Guinness World Records book takes it to the next level," said the Colonel's person, Anne Marie Avey.

Avey says his colossal coat requires brushing twice or three times a week, and fur still gets all over everything in the house.

"His fur is so epic -- it takes two of us to properly brush him," Avey and co-owner Eric Rosario said in a statement. “Literally everything in the house has hair on it, including us!  I feel like I’m always vacuuming!"

But while Colonel Meow seems to be taking his newfound status in stride, the folks at Guinness seem to have big ideas for him.

"Colonel Meow is being groomed for stardom, and I know the furry feline will be a big hit with readers," said Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glanday. "He's an incredible creature, and he'll undoubtedly inspire people all around the world to whip out their rulers and start measuring their own cat's fur."
