Police said the sisters traveled from Algeria to clear out the Montpellier apartment that belonged to their brother, who died in early August at the age of 61, Radio France Internationale reported Thursday.
The women discovered the money, which was in 100 and 500 euro notes, inside the man's couch and turned it over to police. The women also discovered a social security card and bank card belonging to their father, who died in 1995.
Police said they believe the women's brother had been continuing to collect on his father's pension in the years following his death.
