Police respond to 911 call about 'giant spider'

FOREST GROVE, Ore., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Police in Oregon said an officer responded to a teenager's 911 call about a "giant spider" with a rolled-up newspaper.

Forest Grove police said a teenage girl who was home alone Aug. 16 called 911 in the evening to report her home was being terrorized by a "massive freaking creature," KPTV, Portland, Ore., reported Wednesday.

"I'm home alone and there is a giant spider on the back of my couch, and I'm talking giant. I've never seen a spider this big and I have no idea what to do," the girl told the 911 dispatcher.

"I don't know if you guys have anything I can do, or if I just sit here and stare at it and wait for someone to get home to kill it," she said.

The dispatcher agreed to have an officer visit the girl's home. The officer reported finding the spider, measuring about 2 inches in diameter, and disposing of it with a rolled-up newspaper.

Forest Grove police said 911 calls about arachnid problems are unusual.
