Russian hovercraft lands on crowded beach

MECHNIKOVO, Russia, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The Russian Defense Ministry said a military hovercraft that came ashore on a crowded beach was well within the territory of the military base.

The Zubr, or Bison, hovercraft came ashore Sunday at a crowded Mechnikovo beach, and the incident was videotaped and posted to YouTube, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

The Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper quoted the Russian Defense Ministry's press service as saying the beach was on ministry property and "what people were doing at the beach on the territory of a military base is unclear."
