Saudi groom arrested after wedding party turns violent

MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A wedding in Saudi Arabia ended with the groom jailed on allegations of assaulting the bride's sister and other family members, Arabic daily Okaz reported.

Okaz said the recent wedding party at a hall in Makkah was winding down when the groom came into the room where the women were celebrating and asked for a picture with his bride, Gulf News reported.

The older sister of the bride told the groom she did not approve of men being in the room and asked him to leave.

The groom argued with the bride's sister before allegedly attacking the woman physically, leading to a brawl that spread to the bride's other female relatives before male relatives joined in the fracas.

The groom fled the scene and the bride's family members reported him to the police on allegations of assault.

He man was arrested a few hours after the alleged incident, Okaz said.
