Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe DETROIT, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Detroit firefighters came to the rescue at the grand opening of a splash park when a broken water main threatened to keep the day dry, Mayor Dave Bing said. Bing said the grand opening of the Palmer Park Splash Park during the weekend was in danger of leaving a lot of children disappointed when a burst water main kept the attraction dry, so he called in the fire department to use a truck to hose down the waiting children, WJBK-TV, Detroit, reported Monday. Advertisement "We had a mishap with a water main that broke," Bing said. "We have a water system that's 100 years old so those things happen." Bing said he also called the water department, which said it expected to have the problem sorted out by Monday. The splash park, built with a donation from the Lear Corporation, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
