NAPLES, Fla., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Florida wildlife officials said they were attempting to trap a black bear that spent about an hour lounging on the enclosed porch at a family's home

The MacDonough family of Naples said they were shocked when a black bear emerged from the woods this week, tore through the screen of their lanai and spent about an hour napping and lounging on the floor, WBBH-TV, Fort Myers, Fla., reported Friday.

"I know I've been to the zoo. I've seen a bear at the zoo, but not even that close. This is the closest I've ever come to a bear let alone a [7- or 8-foot] bear sitting on my back porch," Alice MacDonough said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it has set a trap in the area in an attempt to ensnare the bear. Officials said the bear is dangerous because it did not seem to be bothered by its extended proximity to humans and will be put down.

Alice MacDonough said she was sorry to hear the bear will be euthanized.

"This is their habitat, we're invading their area. They need a place to run and to roam," she said.
