KAITAIA, New Zealand, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- A New Zealand burglar nicknamed the "Buttcrack Bandit" due to security camera footage of his exposed buttocks was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Lane Lewis Junior Toto of Waiharara was sentenced to the prison term Thursday by Judge Greg Davis of the Kaitaia District Court for a burglary conviction and a separate assault conviction, The (Kaitaia) Northland Age reported Thursday.

The court heard Toto stole three boxes of Steinlager and two of cider from a closed Houhora Liquor Store in Pukenui last Christmas Eve.

Toto, who has 22 previous burglary convictions, became known as the "Buttcrack Bandit" when security footage was released showing his pants riding low on his buttocks.

Toto was also convicted of assault for a September 2011 incident in Kaikohe. Police said he punched a pregnant woman five times in the "leg and hip area" while the couple's 12-month-old daughter was on the same bed.
