Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said they arrested a mailman accused of defrauding customers by borrowing money he promised to pay back. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said some residents in the New Smyrna Beach area said their mail carrier, Randell Holley, 67, would come to their homes between 2 and 4 a.m. with a story about a broken-down vehicle and ask for amounts of money between $20 and $60 that he said he would pay back. Advertisement Investigators said Holley only repaid the money twice. He once repaid a woman with a check that was later discovered to have been connected to a closed bank account. Deputies said Holley would wear his postal uniform during the incidents so customers would recognize him as their mailman and trust him with the money. Holley, who is accused of charges including petty theft and obtaining property by fraud, admitted to deputies that he had borrowed money, but said he always returned the loans, the report said.
