ARCHANON, Greece, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Greek tax officials have ordered a one-month closure of a tavern in a town where tax inspectors were driven out by angry locals.

Ekathimerini.com cited local reports as saying a team of Financial Crimes Squad inspectors were sent to the village of Archanon on the island of Crete to conduct raids on businesses for alleged tax code violations.

However, Ekathimerini said locals were angry at the inspectors for conducting the raids while the village was celebrating its patron saint with a church festival. A group at a local tavern targeted by the investigators heckled the team and threatened violence if they did not leave, the newspaper said.

The Greek Finance Ministry issued an order following the incident to have the tavern shut down for a month to allow a complete audit of its finances.
