TACOMA, Wash., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Authorities in Washington state said a rendering truck traveling on the interstate spilled its load of animal parts onto the road.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said the animal parts fell from the truck Thursday night and spread across two lanes of northbound Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord when the truck driver slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting slow-moving traffic ahead, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported Friday.

"I know this doesn't look good but trust me, it smells even worse!" Gill posted on Twitter.

Traffic was directed around the affected lanes while a front-end loader was brought in to clean up the animal parts, troopers said.

Gill said the driver will be issued a citation for failing to secure the load.
