Russian police: Man arrested for stealing road

SYKTYVKAR, Russia, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Russian police said they arrested a man accused of stealing 82 reinforced concrete slabs that made up a road outside of a city.

Investigators said the Syktyvkar man, whose name was not released but whose birth year was given as 1973, allegedly used machinery to dismantle the slabs comprising the road connecting the village of Parcheg with the Vychegda River, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.

The suspect then allegedly loaded the slabs, worth a total $6,100, onto three trucks that later were stopped by police.

The man has been charged with theft and faces up to two years in prison if convicted.
