Thomas McIntyre, 43, of Larne said he grew to more than 430 pounds after he stopped playing soccer in his early 20s and he has now been dubbed Slimming World Man of the Year 2013 after dropping to 188 pounds, the Belfast Telegraph reported Tuesday.
McIntyre, who wore size 8XL clothes before his weight loss, said he had been worried about his health.
"Getting stuck in a turnstile when I went to Partick Thistle's ground wasn't much fun either. After that I had to go in through the disabled gate every time I went to a football game," he said.
McIntyre said a friend introduced him to weight loss organization Slimming World in February 2012 and he said his exercise routine gradually grew until he was shedding pounds.
"I feel like life passed me by for years so I'm determined to live it to the full now," he said.
