CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 29 (UPI) -- North Carolina's Carowinds theme park said more than 60 people were stranded on a ride for about an hour when the safety system was triggered.

Park officials said the sensor malfunctioned and caused the WindSeeker ride to stop working Sunday at the Charlotte park and the more than 60 riders were stranded for about an hour before being lowered to the ground, WCNC-TV, Charlotte, reported Monday.

"[We] anticipate opening the ride tomorrow," Carowinds officials wrote in an email to WCNC-TV.

Carowinds parent company Cedar Fair temporarily shut down WindSeeker rides across the country in September after about 300 people were stranded at Carowinds in a similar incident.
