Nataly Kogan, founder and "chief happiness officer" of Happier -- which involves a website and a smartphone app -- said the network was born when she realized her successes, which included working for Microsoft and selling a multimillion dollar company to Paypal, did not make her happy, ABC News reported Thursday.
"I had a big 'holy crap' moment and realized that I was doing it all wrong," Kogan said.
She said Happier is aimed at spreading happiness by allowing people to share photos, moments and thoughts of happiness with their friends as well as strangers via the "discovery area," which includes posts chosen by Happier's staff.
Users can mark posts they like with "smiles," similar to "likes" on Facebook.
"We chose smiles as our social action because it's gentle and supportive," she said. "Also, users are probably physically smiling when they see a post.
"It may seem kind of crazy, but we're out there to make millions of people happier," Kogan said.
