MAGADAN, Russia, July 23 (UPI) -- Russian police said a 17-year-old boy admitted to stealing 10 cars and sinking some of them in a nearby lake.

Police in the eastern Magadan region said the teenager has been detained and is likely to face criminal charges after he admitted to stealing the 10 cars and sinking some of them in Glinka lake, RIA Novosti reported Tuesday.

"In order to locate and retrieve the stolen vehicles from the lake, police requested the assistance of the regional search-and-rescue unit from the Ministry of Emergencies," a police representative said. "After a brief search, the divers discovered the vehicles at the bottom of the [Glinka] lake and brought them to the shore."

Police are working to assess damage to the vehicles, the representative said.
