Researchers: Polish men admire tough guys

July 18, 2013 at 3:41 PM

WARSAW, Poland, July 18 (UPI) -- A Polish university said its survey of 500 men indicates the country's males value courage and independence and see movie tough guys as role models.

Dr. Joanna Roszak of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw said the survey indicates Polish men see actor Boguslaw Linda, known for his tough guy persona in the film "Dogs" and its sequel, as the ideal Polish man, Polskie Radio's IAR news agency reported Thursday.

"He is one of the traditional macho male types," Roszak said. "His temperament sometimes gives rise to aggression, for example in relations with other men."

She said the men in the survey listed courage and independence as the most important and attractive qualities for a Polish man.

A majority of participants said they would be willing to intervene in a dangerous situation, Roszak said.
