Jana Werksman, who coordinated the Wednesday morning event at the Coral Springs City Gymnasium as part of the city's 50th anniversary celebration, said the aim was to set a workout record by gathering 1,001 children to Zumba dance, but they ended short 322 kids, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday.
"Am I disappointed?" Werksman said. "They all had fun. They all did something they'd never get to do. It's all good."
Werksman said children from 20 city and private summer camps participated in the event, dubbed "Zumbatomic." However, she said the effort to reach the 1,001 participants was complicated when many camps couldn't secure the use of buses.
"The biggest pitfall that we found was transport," Werksman said. "There was no transport available for some of the groups."
Coral Springs Mayor Vince Boccard was in attendance but decided not to dance.
"I'm too old for the Zumba," he said. "I don't think my joints would work."
