Texas Six Flags ride certified as tallest swing in the world

July 9, 2013 at 4:47 PM

ARLINGTON, Texas, July 9 (UPI) -- The towering swing ride at Six Flags over Arlington theme park has been certified as the tallest in the world, Guinness Book of World Records officials said.

The Texas SkyScreamer, which stands at 402 feet, 10 inches, was crowned the "world's tallest swing carousel ride." It is 19 feet taller than the previous record-holder, a tower swing in Vienna, Austria.

Since the ride opened in May more than 100,000 people have gone up for a spin. The ride, which swings at a top speed of 35 mph, offers sweeping views of the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines, a park spokeswoman said.

A certificate authenticating the Guinness record is on its way, The Dallas Morning News said.
