Inmate uses three ladders to scale walls and escape Ohio prison

MANSFIELD, Ohio, July 9 (UPI) -- It took three ladders to break out of a Mansfield, Ohio, correctional facility, an inmate learned last week before he was returned to prison.

James David Myers, 47, serving a 40-year sentence at the Mansfield Correctional Institution for rape, kidnapping, burglary and stalking, escaped July 3, using ladders to leave the maintenance area of the prison, and then to scale the perimeter walls, police said.

Prison staff found the ladders and notified state police. Myers was captured after being tackled in a general store in Richland County the following day, WEWS-TV, Cleveland, reported.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Myers did not commit any crimes of which they are aware while on the run.
