STILLWATER, Minn., July 9 (UPI) -- Police in Minnesota are on the lookout for an 8-foot evil villain sidekick stolen from a McDonald's restaurant that was part of a "Despicable Me 2" promotion.

The animated film stars Steve Carell as the voice of Gru, an evil villain who turns away from the dark side when he unexpectedly inherits three young girls. Gru's sidekicks, dubbed the minions, are yellow pill-shaped creatures wearing overalls running around creating mayhem.

Police in Stillwater said an 8-foot tall inflatable minion was stolen from a McDonald's promotional display sometime between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Friday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press said Monday.

Jorge Barrera, the restaurant manager, said the thieves would have needed a truck to steal the minion without deflating it. If they did take the air out they'll need a large air compressor if they want to blow it back up.

"It took about an hour to inflate the thing," he said.

"Despicable Me 2" hits theaters Wednesday and stars Carell and Kristin Wiig as the voice of Lucy Wilde, Gru's new crime-fighting partner.
