Cherry pit spitting title stays in the family

EAU CLAIRE, Mich., July 8 (UPI) -- The winner of a Michigan cherry pit spitting competition is the youngest member of a dynasty that includes his 15-time champion father.

Matt "BB Gun" Krause, 30, won his first title at Saturday's 40th Annual International Cherry Pit-Spitting Championship in Eau Claire, Mich., following in the footsteps of his father, Rick "Pellet Gun" Krause, a 15-time champion, and Matt's older brother, Brian "Young Gun" Krause, a nine-time champion, The Herald-Palladium, St. Joseph, Mich., reported Monday.

Krause won the men's championship belt with a distance of 41 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

Mark Yello of Oswego, Ill., took second with a distance of 40 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

Amanda Jennings of Point Edward, Ontario, Canada, took her third title in the women's division with a spit of 32 feet, 11 1/2 inches.
