Lotto winner's life not changed 16 years later

July 1, 2013 at 2:48 PM

LIVERPOOL, England, July 1 (UPI) -- A British man who vowed his life would not change when he won an $18.8 million lottery jackpot 16 years ago seems to have kept the promise, neighbors said.

David Ashcroft, 46, of Liverpool, England, won the lottery 16 years ago, but the only luxuries he seems to have splurged on are new double glazing for his home, a Ferrari he gave to a relative and a 4x4 Mitsubishi and recreational vehicle for his parents, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

"I am an ordinary, quiet introvert. This may change me. I hope not," Ashcroft said when he won the jackpot in 1997.

Ashcroft's mother said he has "not gone anywhere" since the win and neighbors said he appears to be keeping the same routines as from before the win.

"Most people would have used a fortune like that to fulfill all their dreams, but evidently David's perfectly happy as he is," a neighbor told the Daily Mail.
