$38.10 gourmet cat food sells out in London

July 1, 2013 at 2:29 PM

LONDON, July 1 (UPI) -- The British chef who teamed with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to make a $38.10 cat meal said the food quickly sold out.

Chef Simon Rimmer, who developed the extraordinarily fancy feast with TV veterinarian Joe Inglis, said 50 of the Chat Delices meals were made for the RSPCA's fundraiser and they quickly sold out in London's Covet Garden district, The Mirror reported Monday.

The meals, which contained duck and lobster, sold for $38.10 apiece.

"I'm used to creating recipes that will please a human palate," Rimmer said. "But despite being a cat owner myself, developing the first-ever fine dining dish for cats was uncharted territory for me. By working closely with animal experts we've created a dish that is not only good for cats but also a 'once-in-nine-lifetimes' food experience for them."
