MILWAUKIE, Ore., June 23 (UPI) -- Police in Milwaukie, Ore., said they cited two men for allegedly stealing a wooden bear from a bar after they posted photos of it on Facebook.
Police cited Cory Daniel Harris, 26, and Trevor Modar, 25, for misdemeanor second-degree theft for allegedly stealing the statue from the Wichita Pub Friday, The (Portland) Oregonian reported Saturday.
An anonymous person notified police of the theft after seeing the photos on Facebook, the newspaper said.
In one photo, Harris pretends to engage in a sex act with the bear. In other, he's on a couch with the animal and a can of beer with the caption, "Go home bear, you're drunk."
Wichita Pub bartender Sydney Reeves -- who recognized Harris as a customer -- said the posts were "a really dumb move."
"I've served him like a billion times," she said of Harris.
Waitress Shelly VanVoorhis said the theft was probably a drunken prank, but "it is stealing after all."
"And they're apparently not very good at it because they blasted it all over a social network," she added.
Police said the two men maintain the theft was a prank and they intended to return the statue to the bar.
Harris posted another photo after his citation of the bear in the back of a patrol car, The Oregonian said.
"Ps... Don't borrow the Witchita (sic) bear," he wrote on his Facebook account.
