University of Kansas: @KUBoobs can stay, merchandise must go

LAWRENCE, Kan., June 11 (UPI) -- University of Kansas officials said they don't have a problem with the @KUBoobs Twitter account, just with the merchandise it sells using "KU."

The owner of the Twitter account, which specializes in scantily-clad photos of University of Kansas fans with an emphasis on the chest area, said a "cease-and-desist" letter arrived Monday from the university ordering the account to be taken down by June 12, The Kansas City (Mo.) Star reported Tuesday.

However, Jim Marchiony, KU associate athletics director, clarified on his Twitter page that the school is not trying to shut down the @KUBoobs account.

"KU is not trying to shut down the @KUboobs Twitter account," Marchiony wrote. "A Twitter account is one thing. But they're selling merchandise with KU on it. That violates KU's federal trademark, which the university must protect."
