Lost wedding ring mailed back to owner

ROMEOVILLE, Ill., June 10 (UPI) -- An Illinois woman who accidentally mailed her wedding ring to Arkansas with a shipment of U-joints said the precious item was mailed back to her.

Barb Kasang, 51, of Romeoville said the ring given to her by her husband of 28 years, Steve, vanished while she was working at Lovejoy, a transmission parts manufacturer in Downers Grove, the Chicago Tribune reported in Monday's print edition.

"I was worried, hurt and sad," Kasang said. "It was traumatic. I didn't even want to tell my husband."

Kasang said Steve was understanding, but she was distraught.

"[Steve] was pretty calm," Kasang said. "He said, 'Don't worry about it, we'll replace it.' But it's not the same."

Kasang said she was overjoyed when a salesman in Little Rock, Ark., called to say he had discovered a gold ring in his shipment of U-joints.

"I've been doing this for 27 years, and I've never come across something like that," said the salesman, Steve Smith. "I thought if it was real, someone would be really upset about it."

Kasang said the ring arrived home Friday.

"My heart's still pounding," Kasang said. "We got lucky. He deserves a big blessing."
