Berkeley "Rashid" Smith met his future bride, Shirley Stewart, while she was running errands with her 14-year-old daughter, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Sunday.
Stewart's daughter, Jashirele Stewart, played matchmaker for her mom to promote the first meeting.
"I told my mom, 'Oh, he's cute,'" she said.
Jashirele Stewart, who was 14 at the time, asked Smith for his phone number for her mother, and the couple began dating and ultimately were wedded Saturday.
Smith said the couple agreed if they ever got married, they would do so where they first met, in the photo department at IKEA.
IKEA spokeswoman Olivia Johnson -- who attended the wedding -- said there have been numerous weddings at IKEA stores around the world, but this was the first at the Elizabeth location.
"We were here for you when you met," she told the couple. "So we wanted to be here for you when you exchanged your vows."
The couple also exchanged vows at the home of Smith's grandmother, who was recovering from surgery and unable to leave her home, the newspaper reported.
