CASSELBERRY, Fla., June 5 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a naked man who spat in an officer's face and was shocked with a stun gun told officers he was trying to propose to his girlfriend.

Casselberry police said they responded to a home around 3:45 a.m. Sunday when a man called to report a stranger had knocked on his door and was stripping nude on his back porch, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The police report said officers arrived at the home to find Thomas Edwards Jr., 22, "completely naked" on the back porch of the home and they instructed him to put on his boxer shorts.

Edwards, who gave his name as "Zim," told the officers his girlfriend had invited him to the home so he could propose and she had instructed him to take off his clothes.

He told police "he just wanted to go to jail" and asked if head-butting an officer would result in his arrest.

"I told him not to try it," an officer wrote in the report.

The man then asked if spitting in the officer's face would get him arrested, and he proceeded to do so despite being warned to remain sitting.

Edwards was shocked with a stun gun and arrested on charges of indecent exposure in public, battery on an officer and burglary.
