ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, June 5 (UPI) -- A 90-year-old man who jumped into a Netherlands river to rescue a 19-year-old woman who fell from a dock said it was lucky the woman was "not too fat."

The man said he spotted a woman in the water next to a dock and jumped into the river to pull her out.

Koppers said he and a friend were able to pull the woman to safety despite a strong current.

"It was my duty," Koppers told RTV Rijnmond. "Some people freeze with shock when something like this happens but not me. I would do the same thing again. But it was just as well she was not too fat."

Koppers and the woman were unharmed, but were examined at a hospital as a precaution.
