ST. CLOUD, Fla., June 5 (UPI) -- A pair of mothers have been banned from a Florida elementary school after their verbal sparring turned into a fistfight at a school talent show.

St. Cloud police said Latisha James and Jessica Tyler were attending the Lakeview Elementary School talent show Friday when Tyler complained that James, who was videotaping the performance, was blocking her view, WKMG-TV, Orlando, reported Wednesday.

Tyler alleged James "grabbed her by her neck with one hand and began punching her multiple times."

Police said they believe James instigated the fight, but both women were attacking each other and swearing in front of children by the time another parent was able to separate them.

James was arrested on a battery charge and police said they have recommended the State Attorney's Office also pursue a battery charge against Tyler.

Tyler said she believes she was a victim in the incident and is upset because the ban means she will miss her daughter's fifth-grade graduation Thursday.
