YARRAWONGA, Australia, May 29 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old Australian boy who wanted to see what the inside of a garbage truck looked like got his wish when he hid in a trash bin.

Connor, whose parents did not want his last name used, has been busy since the driver noticed his hands sticking out and rescued him, The Border Mail reported Wednesday. He has been writing thank you notes to everyone involved in getting him out and treating his injuries, which fortunately were minor.

Connor's parents were out and his babysitter taking a nap when he decided to hide in a bin Monday outside his home in Yarrawonga so he could see the inside of a dump truck. Luckily, the driver spotted him after he had dumped the bin.

"I've seen his little hands poking over the edge of the hopper," Dylan Jones said. "I was horrified."

Jones said Connor seemed more worried about losing his shoes and socks than about how close he came to being crushed.

Connor had kind words for Jones: "I think he's really nice and he should ask for an improvement on his job."

His father said Connor has always been fascinated by "anything that moves." But he believes his son will be happy to admire trucks from a distance now.
