Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe OTTAWA, May 18 (UPI) -- A Canadian bagpiper checking out a set of pipes up for auction said he acquired a rare instrument made more than a century ago by a leading Scottish maker. Chris Dodson told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. he feels as though he has won the lottery. Advertisement He said he went to the auction outside Ottawa on the advice of friends, and was not at first impressed by the pipes. "You see an old set of pipes in a box and you just sort of go, well OK, those are old and dusty and nasty looking," he said. "You started looking at some of the bits and saying, hold on a second, there might be something interesting here." The pipes are believed to have been made by Gavin McDougall in Edinburgh in the 1890s, the CBC said. Dodson won't say how much he paid and says he has no plans to re-sell the instrument. "I'm walking on air right now with these things," he said. "It's just so nice to have such a quality instrument."
