Cambridge Brewing Co. said Collier Stout is named for Sean Collier, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer who was shot and killed by the bombing suspects while sitting in his police car April 18, three days after the marathon bombings, The Boston Globe reported Friday.
Phil Bannatyne, owner of the Cambridge Brewing Co, said the first batch should be brewed by the end of May and be ready for drinking by mid-June.
The company said $1 from each sale of the $5.50 beer will be donated to the Jimmy Fund, a non-profit that has established a memorial fund for Collier.
Friends said they think Collier would be honored.
"I think Sean would be beside himself if he knew a beer was being named after him," said Travis Dixon, who graduated from the police academy with Collier and had been his roommate for the past three years.
