CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 13 (UPI) -- Police in North Carolina said two women taking a nude walk with two young children told officers "the Lord" told them to take a naked stroll.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said traffic delays were caused Saturday when motorists slowed to gawk at a woman in her 20s who was taking a nude walk in Charlotte with her 40-something mother, her toddler and her newborn, The Charlotte Observer reported Monday.

"Like freshly born baby naked," police Capt. Rod Farley said. "This was Adam and Eve stuff, not even a loincloth."

The women told officers "the Lord told them to get naked and walk down the street," Farley said.

Police said the women received physical and mental evaluations at Presbyterian Matthews Hospital.

"It didn't appear that they had any problems short of that they didn't have any clothes on," Farley said.

Farley said the women are being investigated for possible child neglect charges and the Department of Social Services has been notified.
