ORLANDO, Fla., May 13 (UPI) -- The manager of a Florida car wash is warning residents to be on the lookout for lovebugs, as the insects can damage car paint.

Sam Bryant, manager of the Octopus Car Wash in Orlando, said he recommends motorists use deflectors to divert the insects away from their windshields and make sure to wash their vehicles as soon as possible after encounters with the lovebugs to reduce damage from the acid in the insects' bodies, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.

Bryant said the spring pests have caused a spike in business.

"Our business has doubled this last week," Bryant said. "We have to order a special cleaner and special pads to remove them."
