WINNIPEG, Manitoba, May 8 (UPI) -- Authorities in Winnipeg, Manitoba, said a 5-foot python was rescued from a dumpster after a pedestrian heard the animal moving around in the trash.

Police said the pedestrian heard noise coming from the dumpster Tuesday night and looked inside to find the large snake slithering around, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday.

The pedestrian called police and officers brought in the animal services department to capture the snake.

Police said they do not know how the python ended up in the dumpster.
