Puppy was in impounded SUV for three weeks in Kansas City, Mo.

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 8 (UPI) -- Officials in Kansas City, Mo., said a puppy was found locked in a sport utility vehicle that had been impounded three weeks earlier.

Danny Rotert, spokesman for Kansas City municipal government, said the abandoned Chevrolet Suburban was impounded April 8 when it was found abandoned and blocking traffic on an eastbound ramp to Interstate 70, The Kansas City Star reported Wednesday.

Rotert said no one noticed the puppy inside the car until she jumped up on the dashboard while an employee was marking vehicles for auction.

Veterinarians said the 12-week-old puppy is lucky to be alive after spending three weeks locked inside the vehicle, where she is believed to have fed on leftover McDonald's trash.

"It's a pretty miraculous story," Rotert said.

He said the puppy, dubbed Kia, will go to a foster home.
