Federal agent spots stolen boat being towed in Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 8 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a stolen boat was recovered when a federal agent spotted it being towed by a pickup truck on Interstate 95 in Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol said an agent from the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., office of the Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine recognized a boat being towed on Interstate 95 as a boat reported stolen in South Carolina, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

The agent contacted the Highway Patrol and the driver of the pickup, which was also determined to have been stolen, was pulled over and arrested.

The combined value of the vehicles was about $200,000.

The driver, whose name wasn't released, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

Officials said the boat, a brand new Regulator, is favored by drug and migrant smugglers.
