Vegan, agriculture students clash at California high school

ELK GROVE, Calif., May 7 (UPI) -- Vegan students clashed with agriculture students at Elk Grove High School in California online, calling the meat-eaters carcass crunchers, students said.

Agriculture students at the school said a debate with vegan students over the eating of meat has found its way to online social networks, including Instagram.

"[One student] keeps posting about goats and sheep and pigs and dead pictures and them being slaughtered," said agriculture student Katie Velon.

Another ag student, Miranda McCurry, told KTXL-TV, Sacramento, Calif., she's proud of working with the animals and what she's learning, even if the animals are later slaughtered for food.

"I don't think it's fair for people to be saying that, because they don't understand the work we put into all these animals. And it's something we voluntarily do," she said.

Students said outside vegan groups have gotten involved and students have been passing out fliers on campus.

One vegan student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told KTXL no one has used the term "carcass cruncher" and she hasn't handed out any fliers.
