Rats flood restaurant through burst sewer main

CENTER CITY, Pa., May 7 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania restaurant is closed after rats flooded the eatery through a burst sewer main footage of the creatures circulated through social media.

Steve Slaughter, owner of three Green Eggs Cafe restaurants in Center City, Pa., posted a notice in the window of the 13th and Locust location saying the restaurant is closed due to a break in the sewer main. He said the break was to blame for the large number of rats witnesses saw through the eatery's windows Sunday night, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia, reported Tuesday.

Witnesses took footage that included rats feasting on pizza that had been left out.

Slaughter said the rats didn't gain reach any food other than the pizza. He said he has obtained a permit from the city to have a plumber fix the burst sewer main.

The city said a health inspector will have to sign off on the restaurant before it can be reopened.
