HIGHLAND BEACH, Fla., May 7 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said an officer pulled over a speeding car and was baffled to find the vehicle empty until the driver was discovered hiding in the trunk.

Highland Beach Police said an officer pulled the red Mitsubishi over for speeding Sunday and searched the area when he saw there was no one inside, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Tuesday.

Police saw the vehicle take off speeding again and it was pulled over a second time. They said the vehicle again appeared to be empty. However, after about 30 minutes, an officer spotted Maximilian Andrew Schroeder, 28, of West Boca, hiding in the trunk.

Schroeder was charged with fleeing and marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession. He was released Sunday from the Palm Beach County Jail on $3,000 bail.
