BERNARDS, N.J., May 6 (UPI) -- Police in New Jersey said beekeepers were called to a highway when thousands of bees escaped from a disabled truck.

Bernards Township Police said the truck became disabled when its load shifted while exiting northbound Route 287 onto southbound Maple Avenue around 8 a.m. Monday and thousands of bees managed to escape from the truck, NJ.com reported Monday.

Beekeepers were called to the scene to help the truck driver get the bees back into the vehicle.

Lt. Michael Voorhees said the escaped bees caused a backup on Route 287 north due to the truck partially blocking the exit ramp.
