LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) --
The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens announced a 12-day-old baby giraffe, named Sophie after a popular baby teething toy, is ready for her public debut.
The zoo said Thursday Sophie weighed 135 pounds and measured 6-feet-tall when she was born April 22 to Masai giraffe Hafina, a first-time mother, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
Officials said Sophie -- whose name was chosen by the great granddaughter of zoo donor Robert McMillan in honor of the Sophie giraffe teething toy for babies -- is making her debut Friday.
