NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., May 2 (UPI) -- A Florida couple said their elaborately decorated home has been targeted by acid and pellet gun attacks because of their Wiccan beliefs.

Kryja Withers and her husband, Randy Withers, said their New Port Richey home -- colorfully decorated on the outside and featuring a Disney theme on the inside -- has been targeted by people shouting slurs, throwing acid bombs and shooting with pellet guns, WFTS-TV, Tampa, Fla., reported Thursday.

Kyrja Withers, who writes children's books about a rabbit named Rupert learning about pagan holidays, said the home is being targeted because she and her husband follow the Wiccan faith and she considers herself a practicing elemental witch.

"We are perceived to be bad people and hurting children, and nothing could be further from the truth," Withers said. "It's a shame that this perpetuation of fear must continue."

New Port Richey police, who have stationed a cruiser outside the Withers' home, said they are investigating the attacks and the perpetrators could face hate crime charges.

"They are really good people and they don't deserve to be treated like this. We are going to do whatever we can to prevent anything further from happening," detective Greg Williams said.
