Wallaby photographed in rural England

WINMARLEIGH, England, April 30 (UPI) -- Police in rural England said they had trouble believing reports of a wallaby roaming county roads until they were shown a photo of the animal.

Lancashire police said they were suspicious of reports from locals of a kangaroo spotted outside the village of Winmarleigh, England -- but then they were shocked when a patrol officer was given a photo taken by a resident of a wallaby, a small kangaroo-like animal, hopping along a road, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

The photo was posted to Lancashire police's Facebook page and the animal has been named "Skippy" in honor of an Australian TV series from the 1960s.

"As far as we know it's still out and about, it's certainly an interesting one. Whatever next, I wonder," Police Constable Dave Kerfoot said.
