LOS ANGELES, April 26 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police said a burglary suspect was arrested after attempting to evade capture on a rooftop and seeming to take a nap.

Police said they responded to the Venice neighborhood around 6 a.m. Friday on a report of a burglary and the man, who was spotted leaving a house, fled to the top of a three-story apartment building, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

"He took off running," Officer Mike Scott said. "We set up a perimeter, and he ended up on a roof."

Police spokesman Richard French said the man repeatedly refused to come down and at one point was seen lying down on the roof with his shirt bunched under his head as if taking a nap.

The man was arrested by SWAT officers when he jumped onto a catwalk shortly before 9:30 a.m.
