Hospital pulls app that lets women preview breast enlargement

SOBORG, Denmark, April 24 (UPI) -- A Danish hospital, after widespread criticism, removed a smartphone app designed to show women what they'd look like with larger breasts, critics said.

Aleris-Hamlet Hospital in Soborg, the largest provider of breast enlargement surgery in the country, was sharply criticized by organizations including the national board of health, Sundhedsstyrelsen, for releasing a smartphone app called "Brystguiden," The Copenhagen Post reported Wednesday.

The app allowed women to use photographs of their breasts to see what they would look like if they were larger.

Sundhedsstyrelsen spokesman Henrik Jensen said the app was inappropriate.

"This is irresponsible," he said. "It is aimed at a very young audience who are not aware of the lifelong consequences of this kind of surgery."

Dr. Bo Jonsson from Aleris-Hamlet Hospital said the app was designed to protect women from "frivolous" breast enlargement ads.

"The app is meant as a gimmick to get young people's attention so we can advise and inform them," he said.
