Seventy-eight percent of Canadian men and 67 percent of women would be willing to say goodbye to social media -- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram -- in exchange for the extra savings.
Sixty-seven percent of Canadians said they would give up trips to the hairdresser, nail salon or shaving in return for $250 more savings each month.
Sixty-four percent said they would easily turn down three months of entertainment, such as eating out, going to the movies and watching sporting events, for the savings, but those age 55 and older were least likely to give up entertainment.
However, most were not willing to give up sex -- 44 percent said they would not give up six months of sex, but women (37 percent) were far more willing to abstain than their male counterparts (26 percent).
The survey was conducted among a sample of 1,506 Canadian adults Feb. 26. The survey has a margin of error of 2.5. percentage points.
